For those of you wondering, I’m a man. A REAL man. Not one of the fake ones or anything.
But even so, it’s an honor for me to be considered for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award. Those that know me or have followed my blog, know that I started this kind of as an experiment, just to find out about blogging. Plus, I felt like my perspective was a little different – a single father raising two kids. I thought some of the lessons I learned as a single parent might be both amusing and instructive to others, and maybe even heartwarming at times.
But a strange thing happened on the way to hitting the PUBLISH button. I found out that I really enjoyed blogging. I mean REALLY enjoyed it. And more importantly, I found out I needed it. I found blogging to be therapeutic in a way that I didn’t expect. I came to look forward to my writing sessions, as well as my interactions with other bloggers and readers.
So while I’m not a true “Sister” as I’m sure the awarded was intended to go to, I will consider myself a “brother” to al lthe sisters. And that’s not a bad place to be.
I want to thank Eclectic Odds n Sods for nominating me for this award. I’m not sure how many guys have ever been nominated for me, but I’ll accept it as an honor. I hope it means that my writing speaks to many people – both men and women.
These are the rules to follow:
- Provide a link to and thank the blogger who nominated you for this award.
- Nominate 10-12 blogs that you find a joy to read.
- Provide links to these nominated blogs and kindly let the recipients know they have been nominated.
- Include the award logo within your blog post.
Answer these 10 questions:
Your favourite colour …. My favorite color is blue. I think. Although I reserve the right to change if the mood strikes me.
Your favourite animal …I guess mine would be a dog. They’re so friendly, and they are after all a man’s, . . . errr . . . sister’s best friend.
Your favourite non-alcoholic drink …. Hmmmmmm. I guess I would have to pick iced tea. Or maybe a Dr. Pepper 10, which I’m drinking right now. (And remember: Dr. Pepper 10 is for MEN ONLY. Yet another piece of evidence to prove that I am a man.)
Facebook or Twitter – I really like both of them a lot. I find myself getting addicted to Twitter if I get on, so I try to stay away from it. I do use Facebook more often, so I’ll go with Facebook.
Your favourite pattern ….. As a guy, I’m not sure I’m allowed to answer this. (And, I’m ashamed to admit, I don’t know any patterns.) But if I did, I guess I would say my favorite pattern is eat, watch tv, eat, take a nap, eat, go to bed. Oh, and you can throw beer and/or sex in there at any point in the pattern without throwing it off.
Do you prefer getting or giving presents?– I like giving gifts better. I’m usually pretty good at picking out gifts, and I enjoy making others happy.
Your favourite number … I would say either 6, which was my favorite as a kid, or 37, which seems like a totally random number and one I’ve grown fond of over the years.
Your favourite day of the week … There’s something about Fridays that I love. The work week is winding down, and the freedom of the weekend stretches before you like a highway you’re dying to explore.
Your favourite flower …. I would say a gardenia. I love the smell. But I’m not sure that qualifies as a flower. Hmmmmmm. Aren’t there any questions on here about football or beer or some other manly pursuits?
What is your passion? ….. My children
Here are my nominations for the award, in alphabetical order:

I know I’m a little short on my number of blogs, but these are some of my favorites. I hope you’ll take time to visit each of them.
Hah you made me giggle with your post and your oh so sneaky I mean what’s your favorite pattern? Talk about thinking out of the box and you mentioned the s-x word! Gasps
Great answers and yes yori a sister to us all with your wise words, witty humour and openess!
Yah he is really a guy! Really… 😀
I’m glad you enjoyed. 🙂
And I really don’t know any of the “patterns” that I’m sure your question referred to. Lol
I imagine you now trying to pull an innocent expression!!!
Ha! Maybe not TOO innocent.
I thought so!!
Ok, I’ve got a question for you. How do you put images on your homepage of your blog? For example, I would like to insert images of the awards I’ve won on my home page, but I can’t figure out how to do it.
Right click on it.
A menu pops up. Click on “save picture as” and it should go to your photos on your computer.
Then insert it with the “add media” button at the top of the work area of your home page, just as if you were inserting a photo into a post.
I wanted to send you this mark, as some great ideas for media, photos, sliders etc, there should be two links:
and this one:
Thank you. I’ll check those out.
I’ve been fiddling all afternoon with the info from those links argh it’s amazing how time flies I was glad my net wenr
I know. I can lose time on the blog, too.
Ps looks like your having lots of fun with this nomination 😀
Yes! I really am having fun with it!! 🙂
Terrific post, Mark. I think there are going to be plenty of fellas out there who are going to see you as a trailblazing soul of the sisterhood. You wear the badge well, buddy.
And I think if you’re given the award, you should feel confident enough to alter a question or two in whatever sports endorphine-crazed, alcoholically dazed way you want to. It’s your show.
Thanks for all the great suggestions–I’m sure they’ll be worthy of checking out and making some new like-minded friends. Here’s to Fido, flowers and Fridays!
Cheers and congrats. 😛
I think it’s awesome that you got this award! And thank you kindly for passing it along to me. Somehow the fact that it’s coming from a dude makes it even more fun to get!
Thanks for the kind mention, here, Mark! And your blog really does entertain and touch. Your subject is unique. All the things you’d hoped. 🙂
Okay, I give up. I have waited patiently but NO MORE: What is your favorite beer!!! 😀
And your favorite sports team?
Oooooooh boy. You’re probably about to be very disappointed. My favorite beer is Rolling Rock.
Favorite sports team? Hmmmmmm. . . well, for college sports, I guess it would have to be Arkansas. In professional football, I used to be a big San Francisco fan. Not as much these days, but there are several teams I do like. In pro basketball, I like San Antonio. In baseball, I like Atlanta and Chicago Cubs.
How have you been? I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.
We’re fine. Eleventh grandbaby coming soon. Too busy, but it beats being an invalid or something. Thanks for finally telling ALL! Ha!
